A failure of the electricity supply at a communications centre means trains across the Greater Manchester area and North West of England are being disrupted.

There was a fire next to the track between Newport (South Wales) and Cardiff Central on Saturday 1 August. The severity of the fire has affected the signalling equipment and the overhead electric power.
Whilst the extensive repairs continue, some lines between these stations remain closed. This means that a heavily reduced service is in operation between these stations.
Major disruption is expected to continue until at least the end of the day on Friday 7 August.
